Initial consultation
Your first one-on-one session is all about getting to know you and your situation. We’ll talk through your history, set goals, and create a plan to help you recover and get back to work. It’s a chance to discuss your needs and start building a clear path forward.

Subsequent consultation
These sessions provide therapy, skill-building, and strategies to help you recover and manage challenges. You can access up to 7 one-on-one sessions without insurer pre-approval, making it easier to get care right away.

We understand the importance of working collaboratively with your entire treatment team to align goals and overcome barriers. When everyone is on the same page, your return to health and life is more sustainable and achievable.
Types of treatment that may be engaged in your sessions
Your psychologist will use one or more evidence-based treatment methods to support your recovery and help you return to work. These methods are proven to support individuals experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, PTSD, chronic pain, interpersonal adjustment challenges, grief and loss.
Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT)
Focuses on identifying and changing unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours to improve mental health and recovery.
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
Helps you accept difficult emotions while committing to actions that align with your values and recovery goals.
Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR)
Targets trauma and distressing memories through structured techniques to reduce their emotional impact.

Tailored approaches to set and achieve specific recovery goals, supporting your return to work and daily activities.

Do I need a referral from my GP?
Yes, you need a referral from your GP or your claims manager to begin seeing one of our psychologists at Peak Psych.
Do I need to pay for my sessions?
No. When you submit a worker’s compensation claim for psychological injury, your GP can refer you to Peak Psych to receive up to 8 free psychological treatment sessions (including your initial consultant session) without pre-approval from the insurer managing your claim. Should you require further treatment after these 8 sessions, your treating psychologist will develop an AHTR plan with you and liaise with your insurer for additional sessions. (treating psychologist or GP can seek approval for additional sessions from the insurer.. )
Can I choose my psychologist?
Yes, you can request a specific psychologist when booking online or over the phone. If your preferred psychologist isn’t available, our support team will connect you with another experienced psychologist on the Peak Psych team who specialises in your needs and preferences.
Is what I speak about in my sessions kept confidential?
Your Peak Psych psychologist will work closely with your recovery and support team to keep them updated on your diagnosis and treatment plans. We’ll focus on strategies to help you recover and improve your health. Personal topics discussed in sessions will only be shared if they are directly related to your recovery.
